Guy Fawkes


Apart from Halloween there exist some other less famous celebrations in England like this of Guy Fawkes.

See if you can learn the basics of his story . Read this text and complete it with the words provided.

    Guy Fawkes day is on 5th November. He was a catholic conspirator in a protestant country. In 1605 he tried to blow up the houses of parliament with some gunpowder,because he wanted to kill King James I and restore catholicism. This day it takes place the anniversary of the gunpowder plot.

    How do people celebrate?:Throughout England, Towns and Villages they light very big bonfires, display magnificent fireworks and burn "guys" to celebrate the fact the attack on the parliament and James I in 1605 was not successful.

    San Juan's bonfire on 21th June and "Fallas" on 19th March in Valencia.
